Payment Route
Turkey to United States Payment Methods
A Turkey-to-US payment should start with the route the US merchant or verified recipient actually offers. Common practical routes include a Turkish-issued Visa or Mastercard, a TROY card that also carries an accepted international scheme logo, or a regulated transfer to a verified US recipient. FAST and EFT are Turkish account-payment systems and do not automatically create a US merchant checkout. PayPal’s Turkey page continues to state that local operations are stopped, so a foreign merchant’s PayPal button should not be presented as a normal Turkey-resident route. This guide separates those layers before comparing authorization, TRY/USD conversion, recurring billing, payment states, refunds and recovery.

Start With the US Checkout and the Exact International Card Network
If the US merchant shows Visa or Mastercard, inspect the exact Turkish-issued card. If the payer has TROY, BKM says the card must also carry an international scheme logo for transactions abroad. A regulated transfer is a separate recipient route. FAST and EFT are domestic Turkish-lira account systems, while PayPal is not a normal Turkey-resident option under PayPal’s current Turkey notice.

Which Turkey-to-US Route Fits the Payment Job?
The US merchant or recipient defines the entry point. The Turkish card, account or provider then decides whether that exact route is eligible.
| Route | Route Read | Best Job | What Still Decides |
|---|---|---|---|
| Turkish-issued Visa / Mastercard | First Check | US ecommerce, software, travel and subscriptions | The US merchant must accept the network and exact card profile. The Turkish issuer controls funds or credit, card status, online and international use, merchant country or category, billing profile, authentication, recurring authorization, limits, risk, USD authorization, TRY posting and refunds. |
| TROY card with international scheme logo | International Through Partner Scheme | US merchants that accept the international scheme carried by the exact TROY card | BKM states that a TROY card needs an international scheme logo for transactions abroad. Check the exact issuer, partner scheme, international-use controls, merchant acceptance, currency, authentication, recurring support and authorization. A TROY-only domestic profile should not be assumed to work in the US. |
| Regulated transfer | Alternative | Invoices, businesses and verified US recipients | Verify the legal provider and recipient, identity requirements, TRY funding, USD delivery, live exchange rate and fees, funding method, recipient account, timing, transaction state, reconciliation, cancellation or recall and refund or return process. |
| FAST | Not General US Checkout | Turkey-side funding only where a regulated provider explicitly supports a domestic FAST leg | FAST is a CBRT-owned 24/7 Turkish instant-payment system. A US merchant does not automatically accept FAST. If a regulated provider uses FAST for a Turkey-side funding step, verify the provider, recipient, TRY amount, transaction state, onward USD conversion and delivery. |
| EFT | Domestic TRY Rail | Turkey-side bank funding where valid recipient instructions exist | EFT is a Turkish-lira interbank payment system, not a US checkout method. Verify the bank or provider, legal recipient, account data, TRY amount, onward conversion, timing, payment state and recovery. |
| PayPal | Turkey-Resident Route Not Available | Do not treat as a normal Turkey-resident US checkout route | PayPal’s Turkey notice says local operations remain stopped and Turkey-based customers cannot send or receive money through local PayPal accounts. A merchant PayPal button therefore does not prove a supported Turkey-resident route. |
| Gift card / platform balance | Closed Loop | US app stores, gaming, streaming and retailer-specific purchases | Check issuer, authorized seller, US account or store region, currency, product, subscription rules, balance, backup-payment requirements and refund destination. Closed balance is not general USD cash. |

Four Different Control Points
1. Direct Card: US Merchant + Turkish Issuer
When the US checkout shows Visa or Mastercard, identify the exact Turkish-issued card. Merchant acceptance, issuer controls, funds or credit, online and international use, merchant category, USD amount, authentication, recurring setup and risk rules all affect authorization.
2. TROY: Read the Partner Scheme
TROY is Turkey’s domestic card scheme. For US use, the decisive detail is the international scheme logo carried by the exact card. BKM says this is required abroad. The US merchant must accept that scheme and the Turkish issuer must approve the transaction.
3. Regulated Transfer: Provider + Recipient
A verified transfer is a different payment job from ecommerce checkout. Identify the licensed provider, legal recipient, account details, TRY amount, USD delivery, rate and fees, timing, payment state, reconciliation and recovery before sending.
4. FAST / EFT: Domestic Funding, Not US Merchant Rails
FAST and EFT can move TRY between Turkish financial institutions, but neither becomes a US merchant checkout merely because the payer has a Turkish bank account. Use them in a cross-border route only where a regulated provider explicitly accepts the domestic funding leg and identifies onward conversion and US delivery.
TRY/USD Money Trail
Follow the Amount From US Price to Turkish Posting
Start with the US merchant’s original USD price. If checkout offers TRY, identify who performs the conversion and the displayed rate or markup. Otherwise record the USD card authorization and final TRY posting. A regulated transfer provider can perform a separate conversion. Refunds may convert back at a later rate.
Merchant Conversion
If the US merchant offers TRY at checkout, compare the live quote with paying in USD and letting the issuer convert. Record the displayed rate or markup and compare the same payment stage.
Issuer or Provider Conversion
If the Turkish issuer or regulated transfer provider performs conversion, record the source and destination currencies, transaction date, displayed or posted rate, separate fees and final TRY amount.
Refund Conversion
A USD refund can return through the original card or provider route and post in TRY at a different effective amount. Preserve the original merchant currency, route, transaction date and refund record.
Where the Route Breaks
Find the Failed Gate Before Retrying
Card Authorization Gate
Record the exact issuer message, full USD authorization amount, available funds or credit, pending holds, card controls, merchant category, authentication and recurring setup.
Authentication Gate
Separate GO Güvenli Öde or international 3D Secure authentication from authorization. A successful challenge can still be followed by an issuer decline.
Cross-Border Gate
Compare Turkey and US countries, exact card, TROY international scheme where relevant, currency, international controls, merchant category, authentication and issuer or provider risk.
Money Trail Gate
Reconcile the USD merchant price, conversion offer, card authorization, final TRY posting, separate charges, transaction date and refund.
Payment State Gate
Check whether the first card, bank-funded provider or transfer attempt is declined, pending, completed, reversed, returned or refunded before paying again.
Payment Finder
Use the route finder to separate payer country, destination, card or bank route and failed gate.
Straight Answers
Questions About Turkey → US Payments
Can a TROY card work in the United States?
Potentially, when the exact TROY card also carries an eligible international scheme logo and the US merchant accepts that scheme. BKM says the international scheme logo is required for transactions abroad. Check the issuer, scheme, international-use settings, merchant, currency, authentication and authorization.
Can I use FAST to pay any US website?
No. FAST is Turkey’s domestic instant-payment system. A US merchant would need an explicit regulated provider route that accepts a Turkish FAST funding leg. Otherwise start with the international card or verified transfer routes actually offered.
Can a Turkey resident normally pay a US merchant with PayPal?
PayPal’s Turkey page continues to state that local operations are stopped and Turkey-based customers cannot send or receive money through local PayPal accounts. A US merchant showing PayPal does not by itself create a supported Turkey-resident PayPal route.
Do TRY/USD conversion costs apply?
They can. The live cost depends on whether the merchant, Turkish issuer or regulated transfer provider performs the conversion. Record the original USD amount, conversion choice, final TRY posting, separate fees and refund route before comparing.
