Payment Route
Thailand to United States Payment Methods
A Thailand-to-US payment can enter the United States through several different routes: direct card checkout, PayPal, an explicitly supported TrueMoney product, a regulated transfer, or closed platform balance. PromptPay and Thai QR belong only when the US merchant or recipient participates in a supported cross-border linkage. This guide identifies the door before comparing approval, THB/USD cost, renewals, and refunds.
First Read
Start With the US Checkout, Not Thailand’s Domestic Payment Menu
The US merchant or recipient decides which doors exist. If card checkout is shown, inspect the exact Thailand-issued card profile and issuer. If PayPal is shown, inspect the PayPal account and funding layer. TrueMoney works only through an explicit merchant, overseas-QR, remittance, or other supported product. A regulated transfer follows verified recipient instructions instead of checkout. PromptPay or Thai QR matters only inside a supported cross-border linkage. Compare THB/USD conversion, recurring billing, authentication, payment state, and refunds only after the route is identified.
Route Map
Same Direction, Different Payment Route
Route: Thailand → United States. A direct card authorization, PayPal checkout, TrueMoney merchant or remittance product, PromptPay/Thai QR linkage, regulated transfer, and store balance can all move value toward a US merchant or recipient, but they do not share the same account owner, authorization, currency conversion, renewal logic, dispute path, or refund destination. Keep merchant checkout separate from recipient transfers and supported cross-border QR linkages.

Route Read
Which Thailand-to-US Route Fits the Job?
Read this as a route map, not a ranking. The US merchant or recipient chooses the entry point; the Thai account, card, wallet, bank, or provider then decides whether that exact route is eligible.
| Route | Route Read | Best Job | What Still Decides |
|---|---|---|---|
| Direct Visa / Mastercard card checkout | First Check | US merchant checkout, subscriptions, software, stores, travel, apps, and digital services | The merchant must accept the exact Thailand-issued card profile. The issuer still controls available funds or credit, card status, online and international use, merchant country or category, billing profile, EMV 3-D Secure, recurring authorization, limits, THB/USD posting, and refunds |
| PayPal checkout | Merchant Checkout Layer | US merchants that explicitly offer PayPal, including supported one-time or automatic-payment flows | The merchant must expose PayPal. Then check the Thailand PayPal account, country and status, identity verification, transaction type, billing agreement, selected or backup funding, underlying card or bank decision, USD/THB conversion, transaction state, and refund destination |
| Bank or regulated transfer-provider payment | Recipient Route | Verified invoices or US recipients when an exact Thailand-to-US route is offered | Verify the legal recipient, provider and rail, account and routing details, reference, THB funding method, USD delivery amount, conversion rate or markup, sender and intermediary fees, timing, cancellation or recall, reconciliation, and refund or return process |
| TrueMoney product | Explicit Product Route | A US merchant, overseas QR network, remittance destination, or recipient flow explicitly supported by the current TrueMoney product | Name the product first. Check account verification, merchant or recipient integration, funding, balance, destination, country, currency, limits, rate or markup, fees, receiving method, transaction state, and refund or recovery. The TrueMoney brand alone does not create US acceptance |
| PromptPay / Thai QR | Supported Linkage Only | A merchant, recipient, or payer flow inside a listed supported cross-border payment linkage | Verify the linkage or corridor, participating Thai payer app and institution, compatible merchant QR or recipient integration, amount, currency treatment, limits, fees, transaction state, and refund route. It is not a general payment field for an arbitrary US website |
| US platform gift card or store balance | Closed Balance Route | Gaming, app stores, streaming, and platform-specific purchases | The issuer, seller, code status, US account or store region, currency, product, subscription, backup-payment rule, remaining balance, redemption, and refund must match. It does not become general USD cash or repair a failed card attempt |
| Wise transfer / account-specific Wise feature | Separate Products | Eligible THB-funded transfers to verified USD recipients and only account features shown in the live Wise account | Thailand is not on Wise’s current standard new-card list. Separate THB transfer services from card or account-specific rollout features. For a transfer, check Thailand verification, THB funding, USD recipient details, amount, fees, limits, delivery timing, and recovery |
Route by Route
Six Routes, Six Different Control Points
The destination is the same, but the route owner changes. Direct cards depend on merchant and issuer approval; PayPal adds an account and funding layer; a regulated transfer follows verified recipient instructions; TrueMoney depends on a specific wallet, overseas-QR, or remittance product; store balance stays closed-loop; and Wise transfer or account features follow their own eligibility.
1. Direct Card: Merchant + Issuer
This is the cleanest first route to inspect when the US checkout shows the card network. The merchant must accept the exact Thailand-issued card profile; the issuer then decides funds or credit, card status, country, currency, online and international use, merchant category, EMV 3-D Secure, recurring authorization, limits, risk, and final approval. A network logo alone is not approval.
2. PayPal: Merchant Lane + Account + Funding
PayPal is a separate US merchant lane. The merchant must expose it, then the Thailand PayPal account, country, account status, identity verification, transaction type, currency, billing agreement, and displayed funding must fit. The selected card or bank can still be declined underneath PayPal. Record the PayPal transaction state, conversion choice, funding-side entry, and refund destination separately.
3. Regulated Transfer: Recipient Rail
Use a bank or regulated transfer provider only when the US recipient or invoice supplies an exact Thailand-to-US route. Check the legal recipient, provider and rail, account and routing details, reference, THB funding method, USD delivery amount, conversion rate or markup, sender and intermediary fees, timing, cancellation or recall, merchant reconciliation, and recovery. QR or biller funding is a separate provider-specific funding layer when offered.
4. TrueMoney: Product-Specific Route
TrueMoney can represent domestic merchant payments, overseas QR, remittance, or another product-specific route. Use it only when the live Thailand account and exact US merchant, QR network, recipient, or remittance destination are supported. Check funding, balance, verification, country, currency, limits, rate or markup, fees, receiving method, transaction state, and refund or recovery. The brand alone does not define the route.
5. Store Balance: Closed-Loop Route
A US gift card or platform balance creates closed-loop value inside one platform. Check the issuer, seller, code status, US account or store region, currency, eligible product, subscription, remaining balance, backup-payment requirement, redemption, and refund destination. It does not become general USD cash and does not cancel a pending Thai card or PayPal attempt. Never disclose a code or PIN to someone demanding payment.
6. Wise: Transfer Route or Account-Specific Feature
Wise’s current standard new-card list does not include Thailand. Treat THB-funded transfer services separately from card availability or any account-specific rollout. For a transfer, check Thailand verification, THB funding, USD recipient details, amount, fees, limits, delivery timing, and recovery. If the live account shows another eligible Wise feature, evaluate that exact product rather than assuming standard card availability.
Where the Route Stops
A Thai Payment Method Does Not Automatically Travel to a US Merchant
A method can be common or fully functional inside Thailand and still have no entry point at a US checkout. The US merchant or recipient must expose the relevant card, PayPal, TrueMoney, PromptPay/Thai QR linkage, transfer, or store-balance route before the Thai account, app, bank, or provider can be tested.
PromptPay Needs a Supported Cross-Border Linkage
PromptPay can cross borders only through a listed supported linkage with participating institutions or payer apps and a compatible merchant or recipient flow. Verify the US merchant or recipient identity, amount, currency treatment, limits, fees, transaction state, and refund route. PromptPay availability inside Thailand does not create a general US checkout method.
Thai QR Needs a Compatible Merchant Flow
Thai QR can work abroad only through a listed cross-border linkage with a participating Thai payer app or institution and compatible merchant QR integration. Verify the merchant identity, amount, currency treatment, limits, fees, transaction state, and refund route. A Thai banking app or domestic QR capability alone does not create US merchant acceptance.
TrueMoney Needs the Exact Product Route
TrueMoney’s domestic merchant, overseas QR, and remittance services are separate products. Confirm the live product, account verification, merchant or recipient integration, destination, funding, balance, currency, limits, rate or markup, fees, receiving method, transaction state, timing, and refund or recovery. The TrueMoney brand alone does not define the US route.
PayPal Needs an Eligible Thailand Account and Funding Route
Merchant integration is only the first gate. The Thailand PayPal account, account country and status, identity verification, transaction type, billing agreement, selected or backup funding, currency, conversion, and account limitations must also fit. If the same Thai card funds PayPal, the issuer still sits underneath the route.
Wise Transfer and Wise Card Availability Are Separate
Thailand is not on Wise’s current standard new-card list. Treat THB-funded transfer services separately from card availability or any account-specific rollout. For a transfer, check identity verification, THB funding, USD recipient details, amount, fees, limits, delivery timing, and recovery. If the live account exposes another feature, evaluate that exact product instead of assuming standard Wise Card availability.
Recheck the Live Route
Thai banks, wallet providers, card issuers, PayPal, Wise, cross-border PromptPay/Thai QR linkages, TrueMoney products, and the US merchant can change supported products, fees, limits, countries, integrations, and recurring rules. Recheck the live US checkout plus the current Thai provider account before an important payment; an old successful route is evidence, not a guarantee.
Follow the Failed Gate
Which Part of the Thailand-to-US Route Broke?
Use the screen and payment state to locate the owner. Card authorization, 3D Secure, billing or country profile, the cross-border corridor, THB/USD conversion, and transfer or recipient state are different failure layers. Check the US merchant order and any pending authorization or transfer before opening another route.
Card Checkout Gate Declined
Open the card-decline guide when the US merchant accepts the card route but authorization fails. Record the exact issuer message, full authorization amount, available funds or credit, pending holds, card status and controls, merchant country or category, billing profile, USD charge, recurring setup, authentication result, and whether the issuer received the authorization request.
Authentication Gate Stopped
Open the 3D Secure guide when the card route stops before or during authentication. Record whether no challenge appeared, an OTP or issuer app failed, the session expired, or authentication succeeded and the later authorization was declined. Those stages have different owners and should not be retried as one generic card failure.
Profile or Country Gate Rejected
Open the profile guide when the US checkout rejects the genuine billing address, postal code, card country, PayPal or wallet account country, store region, shipping country, or supported-country combination. Fix only genuinely outdated data; a profile match still does not guarantee authentication or issuer authorization.
Cross-Border Route Blocked
Open the international-payment guide when the same Thai card, wallet, or account works domestically but fails at the US merchant. Compare Thailand and US countries, card or account country, billing profile, USD currency, merchant category, online and international controls, authentication, issuer or provider risk, and route-specific restrictions.
THB/USD Money Trail Changed the Final Amount
Open the money-trail guide when the problem is the amount rather than approval. Reconcile the US merchant’s original USD or other currency, any DCC or PayPal conversion, authorization, posted THB amount, separate issuer or provider fees, transaction date, and refund credit. Do not compare a checkout quote with a statement amount from a different stage.
Transfer or Recipient State Failed
Open the payment-state guide when the merchant, recipient, or funding record does not agree. A card can leave a pending authorization, PayPal has its own transaction state, PromptPay or Thai QR has a linkage and merchant state, and a regulated transfer can be pending, rejected, delivered, returned, or awaiting recipient reconciliation. Verify the exact recipient data and route before resending funds.
Before You Press Pay
Read the Route Before Creating an Authorization or Transfer
| Check | Why It Matters |
|---|---|
| Live route: The US checkout exposes this door | Confirm the exact card, PayPal, TrueMoney product, PromptPay/Thai QR linkage, store-balance, or transfer route on the live US merchant or recipient flow. A method that works in Thailand but is absent here is not available for this payment. |
| Funding state: The card, wallet, or account is ready | Check exact account or card status, available balance or credit, online and international controls, limits, security alerts, merchant category, and whether an earlier attempt left a pending authorization or transfer state. |
| Authentication: The current issuer challenge can complete | Record whether 3D Secure is frictionless or challenged, then use only the current official issuer app, page, OTP, or registered contact method. Passing authentication confirms that stage only; issuer authorization still follows. |
| Verification: The provider account can use this route | PayPal, TrueMoney, Wise, banks, and transfer providers can require identity, residency, bank-account, NDID, or product-specific verification before a route is available. Verify the live account rather than assuming prior verification covers every product. |
| Second charge: The route survives renewal | For subscriptions, record the billing agreement, next charge date, card or funding status, expiry or replacement, balance or credit, country, currency, recurring support, and later authorization. Signup success does not prove renewal success. |
| Profile: Genuine country and billing data fit | Compare the issuer billing record, card country, PayPal or wallet account country, store region, shipping country, and merchant-supported countries. Correct only genuinely outdated information; a profile match is not final authorization. |
| Money trail: THB/USD is clear end to end | Record the US merchant’s original currency, any THB or DCC offer, first converter, authorization, posted THB amount, separate issuer or provider fees, transaction date, and refund conversion. Compare the same stage, not one headline rate. |
| Recipient rail: Transfer instructions are verified | For a non-checkout payment, independently verify the legal US recipient, exact rail, account and routing details, reference, send and receive currencies, amount delivered, fees, timing, cancellation or recall, reconciliation, and refund or return path. |
Straight Answers
Questions About the Thailand → US Route
How should I choose a way to pay a US website from Thailand?
Start with the live US checkout, then identify the route rather than the brand. A direct Thailand-issued card, PayPal, TrueMoney product, PromptPay/Thai QR linkage, regulated transfer, store balance, or Wise transfer/account feature all have different account owners, authorization, THB/USD conversion, recurring behavior, payment states, and refund paths. Choose the door that actually exists and fits the purchase job.
Can I use PromptPay to pay a US website?
Only through a listed supported cross-border linkage with a participating Thai payer app or institution and a compatible US merchant or recipient flow. Verify the merchant or recipient identity, amount, currency treatment, limits, fees, transaction state, and refund route. PromptPay and Thai QR are not general ways to pay an arbitrary US website form.
Can TrueMoney pay a US merchant?
Only when the specific TrueMoney merchant, overseas-QR, remittance, or recipient product shown in the live Thailand account supports the US merchant or destination. Check account verification, funding, balance, merchant or recipient integration, destination, currency, limits, rate or markup, fees, receiving method, transaction state, and refund or recovery. The TrueMoney brand alone does not create US acceptance.
Can I use PayPal Thailand?
PayPal can work only when the US merchant offers the PayPal lane and the Thailand account remains eligible. Check account country and status, identity verification, transaction type, currency, billing agreement, selected or backup funding, underlying card or bank approval, PayPal transaction state, conversion, and refund destination. A linked Thai card can still be declined underneath PayPal.
Can I get a Wise Card in Thailand?
Thailand is not on Wise’s current standard new-card list. Treat Wise Card availability separately from THB-funded transfer services and any account-specific feature shown in the live account. For a transfer, check identity verification, THB funding, USD recipient details, amount, fees, limits, delivery timing, and recovery. A transfer route does not imply card availability, and vice versa.
Can I fund an international transfer in THB?
Sometimes, but only when the regulated transfer provider explicitly offers that THB funding method for this route and amount. Check the live quote, provider eligibility, Thailand account verification, QR or biller instructions, destination, amount, fees, limits, USD recipient details, transfer status, and refund or return process before sending.
Do currency-conversion fees apply?
They may, but rebuild the money trail before comparing rates. Record the US merchant’s original currency, any THB or DCC offer, PayPal or provider conversion, card authorization, posted THB amount, separate issuer or provider fees, transaction date, transfer delivery where relevant, and refund credit. A checkout quote, network reference rate, statement posting, transfer delivery, and refund can all represent different stages.

What We Checked: Thailand → United States
We reviewed Bank of Thailand, TrueMoney, PayPal Thailand, and Wise materials on July 30, 2026. Bank of Thailand distinguishes domestic PromptPay and Thai QR payments from specific cross-border payment linkages. TrueMoney documents separate merchant, overseas-QR, and remittance products rather than one universal route. PayPal adds a merchant checkout, funding, transaction-state, and conversion layer, while Wise documents Thailand-specific THB transfer and verification guidance separately from standard Wise Card country availability. These sources describe the Thai side of the route; they do not guarantee that a specific US merchant, card profile, PayPal transaction, TrueMoney product, PromptPay or Thai QR linkage, transfer recipient, currency, recurring payment, or refund will be eligible.
