Payment Route
Egypt to United States Payment Methods
An Egypt-to-US payment should start with the route the US merchant or verified recipient actually offers. Practical routes can include an eligible Egypt-issued Visa or Mastercard, Apple Pay backed by a supported Egyptian card, PayPal where the merchant and Egypt account/funding route are eligible, or a regulated transfer. The Instant Payment Network and InstaPay are Egyptian instant-payment infrastructure and applications; Meeza is Egypt’s national card scheme. None should be assumed to create a universal US merchant checkout by itself. This route map separates domestic rails from cross-border checkout before comparing authorization, EGP/USD conversion, recurring billing, payment states, refunds and recovery.

Start With the US Checkout and Current Egyptian Issuer Rules
If the US merchant shows Visa or Mastercard, inspect the exact Egypt-issued card and the issuer’s current international and foreign-currency controls. If Apple Pay is shown, the underlying Egyptian card still needs to be eligible and authorized. If PayPal is shown, check the Egypt account and funding route. Use IPN/InstaPay only where a regulated provider explicitly uses it as an Egypt-side funding step; do not treat it as a direct US ecommerce rail.

Which Egypt-to-US Route Fits the Payment Job?
The US merchant or recipient defines the door. The Egyptian bank, card, PayPal account or regulated provider then decides whether the route can complete.
| Route | Route Read | Best Job | What Still Decides |
|---|---|---|---|
| Egypt-issued Visa / Mastercard | First Check | US ecommerce, software, travel and subscriptions | The US merchant must accept the network and exact card profile. The Egyptian issuer controls available funds/credit, international and foreign-currency availability, merchant category, billing profile, authentication, recurring authorization, limits, risk, USD authorization, EGP posting and refunds. Current bank rules should be checked at payment time. |
| Apple Pay | Wallet Handoff | US web, app or in-person checkout that explicitly supports Apple Pay | Egypt is an Apple Pay-supported market with participating banks, but Apple Pay does not bypass the underlying card or issuer controls. Check the exact tokenized card, merchant integration, device/browser, USD billing, international use, recurring support and authorization. |
| PayPal | Merchant Checkout Layer | US merchants that explicitly offer PayPal and a supported Egypt account route | The merchant must expose PayPal. Then check the Egypt PayPal account, eligible funding source, account status, transaction type, currency conversion, automatic-payment agreement, payment state and refund destination. |
| Regulated transfer | Alternative | Invoices, businesses and verified US recipients | Verify the licensed bank/provider, legal recipient, identity/compliance requirements, EGP or other funding currency, USD delivery, exchange rate and fees, recipient account, timing, transaction state, reconciliation, cancellation/recall and refund/return process. |
| IPN / InstaPay | Not General US Checkout | Egypt-side funding only where a regulated provider explicitly supports an IPN/InstaPay leg | IPN/InstaPay is designed for instant transactions among supported Egyptian accounts, Meeza cards and mobile wallets. A US merchant does not automatically accept InstaPay. If a regulated provider exposes it locally, verify the provider, recipient, EGP amount, transfer state, onward conversion and US delivery. |
| Meeza | National Scheme | Domestic Egyptian card use unless the exact card separately offers an eligible international-network route | Meeza is Egypt’s national payment-card system. Do not infer US acceptance from the Meeza logo alone. For a US merchant, identify the exact international network capability, issuer rules and merchant acceptance. |
| Mobile wallet | Domestic / Provider-Specific | Supported Egyptian domestic payments or a licensed provider’s explicit local funding leg | Check the wallet provider, balance/funding source, recipient, amount, service limits and whether a regulated cross-border provider explicitly accepts that wallet. A domestic wallet is not automatically a US merchant route. |
| Gift card / platform balance | Closed Loop | US app stores, gaming, streaming and retailer-specific purchases | Check issuer, authorized seller, US account/store region, currency, product, subscription rules, balance, backup-payment requirements and refund destination. |

Four Different Control Points
1. Direct Card: US Merchant + Egyptian Issuer
When the US checkout shows an international card network, inspect the exact Egyptian card and current issuer conditions. Foreign-currency availability can change, so international-use permission, transaction currency, merchant category, authentication, funds/credit, recurring setup and final issuer authorization must be checked live.
2. Apple Pay / PayPal: Separate Handoff Layers
Apple Pay tokenizes an eligible card; PayPal adds an account and funding-source decision. Neither changes the basic need for a live US merchant integration, eligible Egyptian funding source, supported currency, transaction state and refund path.
3. Regulated Transfer: Provider + Recipient
A verified transfer is different from ecommerce checkout. Identify the licensed provider, legal recipient, account details, funding currency, USD delivery, rate and fees, compliance requirements, timing, payment state, reconciliation and recovery before sending.
4. IPN / InstaPay: Fast Domestic Rail, Not US Merchant Rail
InstaPay can move funds instantly among supported Egyptian endpoints 24/7, but a US merchant does not receive InstaPay merely because the payer has an Egyptian account. Use it cross-border only when a licensed provider explicitly accepts the Egypt-side funding leg and identifies onward USD conversion and delivery.
EGP/USD Money Trail
Follow the Amount From US Price to Egyptian Posting
Start with the US merchant’s original USD price. If checkout or PayPal offers EGP, identify who performs the conversion and the displayed rate/markup. Otherwise record the USD card authorization and final EGP posting. A regulated transfer provider may perform a separate conversion. Because Egyptian issuer foreign-currency rules can change, verify both the route’s availability and its live cost at the moment of payment.
Merchant Conversion
If the US merchant offers EGP, compare the actual EGP quote with paying in USD through the eligible card/provider route. Record the same transaction stage and any separate fee.
PayPal or Provider Conversion
PayPal Egypt publishes currency-conversion terms, and regulated transfer providers disclose their own rates and fees. Use the live quote and identify who performs conversion.
Refund Conversion
A USD refund can return through the original card or PayPal route and post in EGP at a different effective amount. Preserve the original currency, route, dates and refund record.
Where the Route Breaks
Find the Failed Gate Before Retrying
Card Authorization Gate
Record the issuer message, USD amount, funds/credit, international and foreign-currency controls, merchant category, authentication and recurring setup.
Authentication Gate
Separate cardholder authentication from final authorization. Passing authentication does not guarantee the Egyptian issuer will approve the USD transaction.
Cross-Border Gate
Compare Egypt and US countries, exact card/account, foreign-currency availability, merchant category, authentication and issuer/provider risk rules.
Money Trail Gate
Reconcile the USD merchant price, conversion choice, authorization, EGP posting, separate charges, transaction date and refund.
Payment State Gate
Check whether the first card, PayPal, InstaPay-funded provider or transfer attempt is successful, rejected, pending, reversed, returned or refunded before paying again.
PayPal Layer
Use the PayPal guide when the US merchant does not offer PayPal, the Egypt account cannot continue, the funding method is unavailable, currency changes the route or an automatic payment fails.
Straight Answers
Questions About Egypt → US Payments
Can I use InstaPay to pay any US website?
No. InstaPay operates over Egypt’s IPN for instant Egyptian payment endpoints. A US merchant or licensed cross-border provider must explicitly expose a compatible route. Otherwise start with the international card, Apple Pay, PayPal or transfer method actually offered.
Can a Meeza card work automatically in the United States?
No assumption should be made from the Meeza logo alone. Meeza is Egypt’s national card scheme. Verify whether the exact card separately supports an international card network, whether the US merchant accepts it and whether the issuer permits the transaction.
Can Apple Pay bypass Egyptian card foreign-currency restrictions?
No. Apple Pay changes the credential handoff but the underlying card and issuer still control international use, foreign-currency availability, funds or credit, merchant risk and authorization.
Do EGP/USD conversion costs apply?
They can. The live cost depends on whether the merchant, PayPal, Egyptian card issuer/network or regulated transfer provider performs conversion. Record the original USD amount, conversion choice, final EGP posting, separate charges and refund route.
