Payment Route

Philippines to United States Payment Methods

A Philippines-to-US payment can enter the United States through several different routes: direct card checkout, GCash Visa, a Maya card, PayPal, Wise Card, closed platform balance, or a verified transfer. Direct GCash wallet use, Maya wallet use, QR Ph, InstaPay, and PESONet belong only when the US merchant or provider explicitly integrates the relevant Philippines-facing route. This guide identifies the door before comparing approval, PHP/USD cost, renewals, and refunds.

First Read

Start With the US Checkout, Not the Philippines’ Domestic Payment Menu

The US merchant or recipient decides which doors exist. If card checkout is shown, inspect the exact Philippine-issued card profile: direct bank card, GCash Visa, Maya virtual or physical card, Wise Card, or another eligible product. If PayPal is shown, inspect the PayPal account and funding layer. A direct GCash or Maya wallet flow exists only through explicit merchant integration. QR Ph, InstaPay, and PESONet remain domestic rails unless a provider builds a Philippines-facing collection or international transfer route. Compare PHP/USD conversion, recurring billing, authentication, payment state, and refunds only after the route is identified.

Route Map

Same Direction, Different Payment Route

Route: Philippines → United States. A direct bank card authorization, GCash Visa payment, Maya card payment, PayPal checkout, Wise Card payment, store balance, and bank or transfer-provider payment can all move value toward a US merchant or recipient, but they do not share the same account owner, authorization, currency conversion, renewal logic, dispute path, or refund destination. Keep direct wallet checkout separate from issued cards, and merchant checkout separate from recipient transfers or Philippines-facing collection flows.

Which Philippines-to-US Route Fits the Job?

Read this as a route map, not a ranking. The US merchant or recipient chooses the entry point; the Philippine account, card, wallet, bank, or provider then decides whether that exact route is eligible.

RouteRoute ReadBest JobWhat Still Decides
Direct Visa / Mastercard card checkout First Check US merchant checkout, subscriptions, software, stores, travel, apps, and digital services The merchant must accept the exact Philippines-issued card profile. The issuer still controls available funds or credit, card status, online and international use, merchant country or category, billing profile, EMV 3-D Secure, recurring authorization, limits, PHP/USD posting, and refunds
GCash Visa Card Separate Card Route US Visa checkout when the GCash prepaid-card product and merchant profile fit The GCash wallet and Visa card are separate layers. Check account verification, card activation and controls, wallet balance, limits, merchant prepaid-card acceptance, country, currency, recurring support, authentication, PHP/USD conversion, authorization, and refund
Maya Card Separate Card Route US card checkout using an eligible Maya virtual, physical wallet card, or credit-card profile The Maya wallet/account and Maya card product are separate layers. Check the exact card, network, account and card status, available balance or credit, online and foreign-currency controls, merchant card-profile acceptance, recurring support, authentication, authorization, and refund
PayPal checkout Merchant Checkout Layer US merchants that explicitly offer PayPal, including supported one-time or automatic-payment flows The merchant must expose PayPal. Then check the Philippine PayPal account, country and status, transaction type, billing agreement, selected or backup funding, underlying card or bank decision, USD/PHP conversion, transaction state, and refund destination
Wise Card Account-to-Card Route US card checkout for an eligible verified Philippine Wise customer Check account and card eligibility, verification, card status and controls, available balance, held USD or conversion from another eligible balance, fees, merchant card-profile acceptance, recurring support, authentication, and authorization. Wise transfer is a separate recipient route
US platform gift card or store balance Closed Balance Route Gaming, app stores, streaming, and platform-specific purchases The issuer, seller, code status, US account or store region, currency, product, subscription, backup-payment rule, remaining balance, redemption, and refund must match. It does not become general USD cash or repair a failed card attempt
Bank or transfer-provider payment Recipient Route Verified invoices or US recipients when an exact Philippines-to-US route is offered Verify the legal recipient, provider and rail, account details, reference, PHP funding method, USD delivery amount, conversion rate or markup, sender and intermediary fees, timing, cancellation or recall, reconciliation, and refund or return process
QR Ph / InstaPay / PESONet Domestic Rails / Explicit Integration Only Philippine domestic QR or account-transfer legs before any separate US collection or international route QR Ph is a domestic QR standard, InstaPay is real-time domestic transfer, and PESONet is batch transfer. A US merchant or provider must explicitly offer a Philippines-facing collection or international route; domestic availability alone does not create US checkout

Route by Route

Six Routes, Six Different Control Points

The destination is the same, but the route owner changes. Direct cards depend on merchant and issuer approval; GCash Visa adds a verified GCash account and prepaid-card product; Maya adds its own account and card product; PayPal adds an account and funding layer; Wise Card adds a Wise account and balance; and store balance stays closed-loop.

1. Direct Card: Merchant + Issuer

This is the cleanest first route to inspect when the US checkout shows the card network. The merchant must accept the exact Philippines-issued card profile; the issuer then decides funds or credit, card status, country, currency, online and international use, merchant category, EMV 3-D Secure, recurring authorization, limits, risk, and final approval. A network logo alone is not approval.

2. GCash Visa: Wallet Account + Prepaid Card

Treat GCash Visa as a prepaid Visa credential backed by the GCash account, not as direct universal GCash-wallet acceptance. Check verified-account eligibility, card activation and controls, wallet balance, limits, merchant prepaid-card acceptance, online and international use, country, currency, recurring support, authentication, PHP/USD conversion, authorization, and refund. The wallet and card are different doors.

3. Maya Card: Maya Account + Card Product

A Maya wallet/account and a Maya virtual, physical wallet card, or credit card are related but separate routes. For card checkout, check the exact product and network, account and card status, available balance or credit, online and foreign-currency controls, limits, merchant card-profile acceptance, recurring support, authentication, authorization, and refund.

4. PayPal: Merchant Lane + Account + Funding

PayPal is a separate US merchant lane. The merchant must expose it, then the Philippine PayPal account, account country and status, transaction type, currency, billing agreement, and displayed funding must fit. The selected card or bank can still be declined underneath PayPal. Record the PayPal transaction state, conversion choice, funding-side entry, and refund destination separately.

5. Wise Card: Account + Balance + Card

Wise Card creates an account-to-card route. Check Philippine account and card eligibility, verification, card status and controls, available balance, held USD or conversion from another eligible balance, fees, merchant card-profile acceptance, recurring support, authentication, and authorization. If the job is to send money to a US recipient, that is a separate Wise transfer route.

6. Store Balance: Closed-Loop Route

A US gift card or platform balance creates closed-loop value inside one platform. Check the issuer, seller, code status, US account or store region, currency, eligible product, subscription, remaining balance, backup-payment requirement, redemption, and refund destination. It does not become general USD cash and does not cancel a pending Philippine card or PayPal attempt. Never disclose a code or PIN to someone demanding payment.

Where the Route Stops

A Philippine Payment Method Does Not Automatically Travel to a US Merchant

A method can be common or fully functional inside the Philippines and still have no entry point at a US checkout. The US merchant or recipient must expose the relevant card, PayPal, wallet, QR, transfer, or store-balance route before the Philippine account, app, bank, or provider can be tested.

GCash Wallet and GCash Visa Are Different Doors

Direct GCash-wallet acceptance and GCash Visa checkout are separate routes. A US merchant that accepts Visa may still never offer direct GCash wallet checkout. Identify which door exists, then check the verified GCash account, card activation and controls where relevant, balance, limits, merchant prepaid-card profile, country, currency, recurring support, authentication, authorization, transaction state, and refund.

QR Ph Needs an Explicit Philippines-Facing Integration

QR Ph is a Philippine domestic QR standard, not a general US checkout method. A US merchant or provider must explicitly integrate a compatible Philippines-facing collection flow before QR Ph can matter to this route. Verify the merchant or collection provider, payer app or institution, amount, currency treatment, transaction state, and refund route rather than assuming a domestic QR code can travel abroad.

InstaPay and PESONet Stop at the Domestic Rail

InstaPay is a real-time Philippine transfer rail and PESONet is a batch-transfer rail. Neither one by itself becomes a US merchant checkout or USD delivery rail. A separate provider or verified recipient route must be offered for the international leg, with its own account details, PHP and USD currencies, fees, limits or cut-off, timing, reconciliation, cancellation or recovery, and refund conditions.

The Old GCash Amex Route Is Closed

GCash states that the former American Express Virtual Pay Card was discontinued on April 1, 2026. Treat old Amex instructions as a dead route, not a fallback. Check the current GCash Visa product, its activation and account rules, or another method that the live US merchant actually displays.

Balance Does Not Equal Approval

A visible GCash, Maya, Wise, prepaid, or bank-card balance answers only the funding question. The account or card can still fail for status, activation, controls, limits, merchant card profile, billing country, recurring setup, currency, authentication, merchant category, risk, or final authorization. Read the failed gate before retrying.

Recheck the Live Route

GCash, Maya, Philippine card issuers, PayPal, Wise, banks, QR or transfer providers, and the US merchant can change product availability, account eligibility, limits, fees, countries, integrations, and recurring rules. Recheck the live US checkout plus the current Philippine provider account before an important payment; an old successful route is evidence, not a guarantee.

Follow the Failed Gate

Which Part of the Philippines-to-US Route Broke?

Use the screen and payment state to locate the owner. Card authorization, 3D Secure, billing or country profile, the cross-border corridor, PHP/USD conversion, and prepaid-program capability are different failure layers. Check the US merchant order and any pending authorization or transfer before opening another route.

Card Checkout Gate Declined

Open the card-decline guide when the US merchant accepts the card route but authorization fails. Record the exact issuer message, full authorization amount, available funds or credit, pending holds, card status and controls, merchant country or category, billing profile, USD charge, recurring setup, authentication result, and whether the issuer received the authorization request.

Authentication Gate Stopped

Open the 3D Secure guide when the card route stops before or during authentication. Record whether no challenge appeared, an OTP or issuer app failed, the session expired, or authentication succeeded and the later authorization was declined. Those stages have different owners and should not be retried as one generic card failure.

Profile or Country Gate Rejected

Open the profile guide when the US checkout rejects the genuine billing address, postal code, card country, GCash/Maya/PayPal account country, store region, shipping country, or supported-country combination. Fix only genuinely outdated data; a profile match still does not guarantee authentication or issuer authorization.

Cross-Border Route Blocked

Open the international-payment guide when the same Philippine card, wallet, or account works domestically but fails at the US merchant. Compare Philippines and US countries, card or account country, billing profile, USD currency, merchant category, online and international controls, authentication, issuer or provider risk, and route-specific restrictions.

PHP/USD Money Trail Changed the Final Amount

Open the money-trail guide when the problem is the amount rather than approval. Reconcile the US merchant’s original USD or other currency, any DCC, PayPal, wallet, or provider conversion, authorization, posted PHP amount, separate issuer or provider fees, transaction date, and refund credit. Do not compare a checkout quote with a statement amount from a different stage.

Prepaid Program Cannot Support the Job

Open the prepaid-card guide when the GCash Visa Card or another prepaid product works once but the US purchase asks for a capability the program may not provide: registration, billing-profile support, full authorization balance, recurring or trial billing, international use, authentication, deposits, holds, or the accepted prepaid-card profile.

Read the Route Before Creating an Authorization or Transfer

CheckWhy It Matters
Live route: The US checkout exposes this doorConfirm the exact direct card, GCash Visa, Maya card, PayPal, Wise Card, wallet integration, store-balance, or transfer route on the live US merchant or recipient flow. A method that works in the Philippines but is absent here is not available for this payment.
Funding state: The card, wallet, or account is readyCheck exact account or card status, available balance or credit, online and international controls, limits, security alerts, merchant category, and whether an earlier attempt left a pending authorization or transfer state.
Product layer: Wallet and card are not being confusedFor GCash, Maya, Wise, prepaid, or virtual-card routes, identify the exact product. Account verification, activation, balance or credit, card controls, merchant card-profile acceptance, limits, and full authorization amount can differ even under the same brand.
Second charge: The route survives renewalFor subscriptions, record the billing agreement, next charge date, exact card or funding product, expiry or replacement, balance or credit, country, currency, recurring support, merchant rules, and later authorization. Signup success does not prove renewal success.
Profile: Genuine country and billing data fitCompare the issuer billing record, card country, GCash/Maya/PayPal account country, store region, shipping country, postal code, and merchant-supported countries. Correct only genuinely outdated information; a profile match is not final authorization.
Money trail: PHP/USD is clear end to endRecord the US merchant’s original currency, any PHP or DCC offer, first converter, authorization, posted PHP amount, separate issuer or provider fees, taxes, transaction date, and refund conversion. Compare the same stage, not one headline rate.
Recipient rail: Transfer instructions are verifiedFor a non-checkout payment, independently verify the legal US recipient, exact rail, account details, reference, send and receive currencies, amount delivered, fees, timing, cancellation or recall, reconciliation, and refund or return path.

Straight Answers

Questions About the Philippines → US Route

How should I choose a payment method from the Philippines to a US website?

Start with the live US checkout, then identify the route rather than the brand. A direct Philippines-issued card, GCash Visa, Maya card, PayPal, Wise Card, wallet integration, store balance, or verified transfer have different account owners, authorization, PHP/USD conversion, recurring behavior, payment states, and refund paths. Choose the door that actually exists and fits the purchase job.

Can I use GCash Wallet or the GCash Visa Card on a US website?

Direct GCash-wallet acceptance and GCash Visa checkout are separate routes. A US merchant may accept the Visa prepaid-card profile without offering GCash wallet checkout. For the card route, check verified-account eligibility, card activation and controls, wallet balance, limits, merchant prepaid-card acceptance, country, currency, recurring support, authentication, authorization, transaction state, and refund.

Can I use Maya for a US subscription?

Sometimes, but name the Maya product first. A Maya wallet flow and a Maya virtual, physical wallet card, or credit card are separate routes. For card checkout, check the exact network, account and card status, balance or credit, foreign-currency and online controls, merchant card-profile acceptance, recurring support, authentication, authorization, and refund.

Can PayPal from the Philippines be used for a US subscription?

PayPal can work only when the US merchant offers the PayPal lane and the Philippine account remains eligible. Check account country and status, transaction type, billing agreement, currency, selected or backup funding, underlying card or bank approval, PayPal transaction state, conversion, and refund destination. One-time checkout and automatic payments are separate billing routes.

Can a Wise Card from the Philippines be used on a US website?

Wise Card can work for an eligible verified Philippine account when the US merchant accepts the exact card profile. Check live account and card eligibility, verification, card status and controls, available balance, held USD or conversion from another eligible balance, fees, merchant restrictions, recurring support, authentication, authorization, and refund. A Wise transfer to a US recipient is a separate route.

Can InstaPay or PESONet pay a US website directly?

Not directly. InstaPay is a real-time Philippine transfer rail and PESONet is a batch-transfer rail. Neither one by itself becomes a US website checkout or USD delivery rail. They can support only a domestic funding or collection leg when a provider explicitly offers a separate Philippines-to-US route with verified recipient details, PHP and USD currencies, fees, limits or cut-off, timing, reconciliation, and refund or return conditions.

What We Checked: Philippines → United States

We reviewed GCash, Maya, PayPal Philippines, and Wise materials on August 1, 2026. GCash distinguishes direct account or wallet use from the separate GCash Visa prepaid-card route and confirms the former Amex Virtual Pay Card ended on April 1, 2026. Maya documents product-specific virtual, physical, and credit-card online or foreign-currency use. PayPal adds a merchant checkout, funding, transaction-state, and conversion layer, while Wise documents Philippine Wise Card availability and merchant use. These sources describe the Philippine side of the route; they do not guarantee that a specific US merchant, card profile, direct wallet integration, QR or transfer collection flow, currency, recurring payment, or refund will be eligible.
